The new singing year beckons in September and we have an exciting programme lined up for 2017/18.
In addition to our usual programme of events, concerts and performances, we are delighted to inform members that Big Sing has been invited to contribute to Turner Contemporary’s 2018 unique and groundbreaking exhibition based on the Waste Land Poem by TS Eliot.
As many of you will know, we have been in ongoing discussions with Turner colleagues on this exciting project since 2016.
For nearly 2 years, Turner Contemporary has been working with a multi-disciplinary research group who are curating the exhibition.
Opening in January 2018, with a Working Title “A journey from the Waste Land”, Eliot wrote part of the poem in Margate whilst convalescing after an illness, so there are distinct links with our local area and rich musical resources from that time in the 1920’s.
For this very special occasion, The Big Sing is commissioning new music for a concert performance to be held at Turner at some point during the exhibition and we are delighted to announce that Tony Castro has accepted the brief to compose and lead us through the new repertoire and remain with us as MD for the year ahead starting in September.
